Dr Sabine Steiner

Professor of Angiology

Dr. Sabine Steiner earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna in 2000, where she also completed training in Medicine and Angiology. She received her Venia docendi (habilitation) in 2006 for research on restenosis and vascular regeneration and was appointed Associate Professor at the Division of Angiology in 2012.

From 2009 to 2011, she pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada, funded by an Erwin-Schroedinger fellowship, and earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology. In 2013, she joined Prof. Scheinert’s interventional team in Leipzig, Germany, specializing in peripheral vascular interventions. She became a senior physician and head of research in 2014.

In 2021, Dr. Steiner was appointed Professor of Applied Vascular Research at the Medical Faculty of Leipzig in collaboration with the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolism, Obesity, and Vascular Research (HI-MAG). In 2024, she assumed a full professorship and became Head of the Division of Angiology at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria.

Dr. Steiner has contributed to over 150 publications and has a broad scientific background in vascular medicine, including endovascular techniques, epidemiology, angiogenesis, anticoagulation, and clinical trials. She has delivered numerous invited talks at international conferences such as LINC, VIVA, JET, and PVI and serves as a regular reviewer for cardiovascular medicine journals.
